WHAT IS A COURSE IN MIRACLES - ORIGINAL EDITION?

The course is the result of the collaboration of two psychologists from Columbia University: Dr. William Thetford and his colleague, Dr. Helen Schucman.

In 1965, Helen experienced what she described as a voice speaking clearly in her head, saying, "This is A Course in Miracles. Please write along." With Bill Thetford's help and assistance in transcribing her shorthand notes, Schucman received the approximately 1,500 typewritten pages of A Course in Miracles over a period of seven years.

Schucman did not claim to be the author of the material herself. As she often explained, she heard a kind of inner dictation and felt compelled to write it down, although at times she disagreed with the content and resisted the process. The voice speaking through Helen clearly identified itself as Jesus.

Yet one does not have to be Christian or accept the traditional doctrines of Christianity to benefit from the teachings of the Course.

The "Original Edition" is the unabridged edition of the Course as completed by Helen Schucman and William Thetford in 1972.

WHAT IS THE COURSE IN MIRACLES SOCIETY?

COURSE IN MIRACLES SOCIETY (CIMS) The Course in Miracles Society (CIMS) is a non-profit organization founded in 2000. It is an international group of course students and teachers who have joined together to
research and spread the divine teachings of A Course in Miracles.

As students, we seek to expand our knowledge of the words of Jesus and deepen our experience of His teachings.

As teachers, we work to spread the message of ACIM throughout the world through our words, actions, and the example of our lives.

WHY ARE PEARLS ON THE COVER?
In the months leading up to beginning the dictation of A Course in Miracles, Dr. Helen Schucman experienced a series of vivid waking and sleeping dreams. In three of these dreams, she was presented with a book. It was thick and black and had large gold letters on the cover. In one of these dreams, she saw it draped with a strand of pearls.

This image is used in the artwork for this edition as a tribute to Dr. Schucman's persistence and dedication to completing the Course. become what can happen to the human mind that is dedicated to perfection and uses the hard knocks of daily life as a stimulus for growth.
